BAN vs WI 2nd Test preview: Bangladesh host West Indies in the second and final Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium from Thursday, 5 November 2026, with play starting at 9:30am local time, which is 9:00am IST. West Indies lead the two-match series 1-0 after their eight-wicket win in Mirpur. How West Indies won the first Test
The first Test in Mirpur was a spinners' match. Bangladesh took a 27-run first-innings lead thanks to Shadman Islam's 105, but were bowled out for 142 in their second innings. Jomel Warrican finished with 9 for 116 in the match and captain Roston Chase took 5 for 36 in the second innings. Brandon King then made 81 not out and put on 112 for the first wicket with John Campbell as West Indies chased 170 inside 36 overs. Bangladesh team news: Mominul out, Amite Hasan in
Mominul Haque was hit on the head while fielding in Mirpur and was replaced in that match by concussion substitute Jaker Ali. Under the ICC's concussion guidelines he must sit out for at least seven days, so he misses Sylhet.
Wicketkeeper-batter Amite Hasan replaces him. According to the ICC, Amite has played one Test, his debut against Zimbabwe in June, but has a strong first-class record: 4,040 runs in 54 matches at an average of 50.50.
Bangladesh squad: Najmul Hossain Shanto (captain), Shadman Islam, Tanzid Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Jaker Ali, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, Taijul Islam, Shoriful Islam, Mushfiqur Rahim, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain, Amite Hasan.
West Indies squad
Roston Chase (captain), Jomel Warrican, Joshua Bishop, John Campbell, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Joshua Da Silva (wk), Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, Amir Jangoo (wk), Jayden Seales, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Kemar Roach, Shamar Springer, Kevin Wickham.

What Daren Sammy said
West Indies head coach Daren Sammy expects Bangladesh, coached by Phil Simmons, to come hard at them. "One thing I know about Phil (Simmons) is that he will not make it easy," Sammy told the ICC. "He wants to win as well."
Sammy also gave his view of why West Indies won in Mirpur: "Our spinners outbowled their spinners and our batsmen responded to playing spin better than theirs." This is West Indies' last Test of the 2025-27 WTC cycle, and Sammy said the aim is to "finish this Test cycle with an away win in Bangladesh".
Why Indian fans should watch: the WTC table
Bangladesh dropped from fourth to fifth after the Mirpur defeat, which leaves India fourth on 51.52 PCT (full WTC table and India's scenarios). Here is what each Sylhet result would do to the two sides, using the WTC points system (12 for a win, 4 for a draw, 0 for a loss) and assuming no over-rate deductions:
| Sylhet result | Bangladesh PCT after (now 47.62) | West Indies PCT after (now 26.92) |
|---|---|---|
| Bangladesh win | 54.17, above India's 51.52 | 25.00 |
| Draw | 45.83 | 27.38 |
| West Indies win | 41.67 | 32.14 |
Our calculation from the standings on ESPNcricinfo: Bangladesh 40 points from 7 Tests, West Indies 42 points from 13 Tests.
So a Bangladesh win would push them above India on percentage, before India play two Tests in New Zealand from 19 November. It would not change India's own route to the final, which depends on India's results, but it would add one more team to beat.
Three things to watch in Sylhet
- Spin again. West Indies' spinners took 16 of Bangladesh's 20 wickets in Mirpur. Taijul Islam, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nayeem Hasan need to match Warrican and Chase.
- Bangladesh's top order. Apart from Shadman's hundred, Bangladesh's batting struggled in Mirpur, collapsing to 35 for 5 in the second innings. Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das need runs.
- King and Campbell. The West Indies openers put on a century stand in the chase. Getting through the new ball in Sylhet would let West Indies bat Bangladesh out of the series.
Our view
West Indies have played the better cricket and need only a draw to win the series. Bangladesh have the home conditions and the bigger WTC reward, but they need 20 wickets and a much better batting effort. Expect another low-scoring Test decided by spin.
