Prema Rawat now holds the record for the fastest fifty in women's T20 cricket: 14 balls. Batting for Uttarakhand against Hyderabad in the BCCI's Senior Women's T20 Trophy in Pune on Monday (2 November), the 24-year-old allrounder finished on 50 not out off 14 balls, a strike rate of 357.14. That beat the previous best of 15 balls, held jointly by Pakistan captain Fatima Sana, England's Marie Kelly and New Zealand's Laura Harris.

She then took 2 for 12 with her leg-spin, Uttarakhand won by 89 runs, and she was named Player of the Match.

Figures as of 3 November 2026, from ESPNcricinfo, Sportstar, India Today, Hindustan Times and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru website.

Uttarakhand vs Hyderabad: brief scores

Competition Senior Women's T20 Trophy (BCCI), league stage
Venue MCA Stadium, Gahunje, Pune
Uttarakhand 187 for 2 in 20 overs (Raghvi Bist 72* off 50, Kareena 44 off 34, Prema Rawat 50* off 14)
Hyderabad 98 for 8 in 20 overs (Prema Rawat 2 for 12)
Result Uttarakhand won by 89 runs

How the 14-ball fifty happened

Rawat came in at No. 4 in the 18th over, so she had at most 17 balls to work with. She played out her first ball, then hit three fours in a row off medium-pacer Sakshi Rao. After a big 19th over against off-spinner Vanka Pooja, she faced the last four balls of the innings from Kunchala Niteesha and hit them for 6, 4, 4, 6, reaching 50 off the final ball.

ESPNcricinfo and Sportstar count six fours and four sixes in the innings. She and Raghvi Bist added an unbroken 58 in the last 2.5 overs, and Rawat made almost all of it.

The lesson for young batters is that she did not need a long innings to make history. She arrived late, picked her bowlers and kept swinging hard. That is the modern finisher's job, and it is now being done in the women's domestic game in India.

14 Prema Rawat Uttarakhand vs Hyderabad, Pune 2026

And in women's T20 internationals?

Rawat's record is in domestic T20 cricket, so the T20I record is unchanged: Fatima Sana's 15-ball fifty against Zimbabwe in Karachi in May 2026. Before that, the T20I mark was 18 balls, shared by Sophie Devine, Phoebe Litchfield and India's Richa Ghosh.

Hyderabad have now conceded two records in five days

This is the second record-breaking night in Pune for Hyderabad's bowlers in a week. On 29 October, Delhi made 262 for 6 against them, the highest total in women's domestic T20 cricket, with Tanisha Singh hitting a 38-ball hundred. We covered that game in Delhi women's record 262 and Tanisha Singh's century. Vanka Pooja bowled in both matches.

Two records in one week in the same tournament also tells you something about the competition: hitting standards in Indian women's domestic cricket are rising fast, helped by the WPL.

Why this matters for Indian women's cricket

Fast scoring at the end of an innings is exactly what India's women's selectors and WPL franchises look for. Richa Ghosh has shown how valuable a finisher can be at international level, and Rawat, who also bowls leg-spin, has now shown she can do both jobs.

India's men hit a record 400 T20I sixes in 2026 (see the full list). The women's game is following the same path, and innings like Rawat's are why.
