Who made the shortlist
The Deepti Sharma ICC Player of the Month shortlist is official: the ICC named six players for the October awards. On the women's side, India's Deepti Sharma sits alongside Australia's Annabel Sutherland and Bangladesh's Sobhana Mostary. On the men's side, the nominees are South Africa's Marco Jansen, Pakistan's Arafat Minhas and West Indies captain Shai Hope.
Winners are typically announced in the second week of the following month, with fans able to vote on the ICC site alongside a panel process.
Why Deepti is on the list
India whitewashed Zimbabwe 3-0 in the home ICC Women's Championship ODIs. In her only batting innings of that series, Deepti scored an unbeaten 106 and took five wickets at an economy rate of 3.42.
In the three T20Is that came before the ODIs, she batted once for 49 off 37 and picked up two wickets with her off-spin. That all-round stack — a match-defining ODI hundred plus control with the ball — is what pushed her onto the monthly shortlist.
Cover Drive's earlier match notes from the same series include Harmanpreet and Deepti's centuries in the 2nd ODI and the 3rd ODI wrap.
The rest of the field, briefly
- Marco Jansen (South Africa): Stood out in South Africa's 2-1 Test series win over Australia, with a heavy runs-and-wickets tally that also lifted him on the ICC Test bowling and all-rounder charts during the period.
- Arafat Minhas (Pakistan): Player of the Series in Pakistan's ODI tri-series success, including a notable bowling haul against England and useful runs in the final.
- Shai Hope (West Indies): Named for a run of high-impact white-ball centuries against India.
- Annabel Sutherland (Australia) and Sobhana Mostary (Bangladesh): Round out the women's shortlist on the back of their October form (as listed by the ICC).
What it means for India fans
Deepti's nomination keeps the spotlight on India's senior all-rounder between multi-format windows. It does not change selection on its own, but it is public recognition of a month where she influenced both the Championship ODIs and the T20Is against Zimbabwe.
